The Centre for Solution Focused Practice

Harvey Ratner is presenting!

In Solution Focused practice it’s clear what the format of a first session is, employing ‘headline’ interventions, such as the best hopes question, tomorrow question and scale questions, and the detailed descriptions we aim for. We know to start a follow up session asking ‘what’s better?’ (it’s been reported that Steve de Shazer called this ‘the single most important question’). Generally clients report progress and we seek to expand on every aspect of that progress. But what happens when clients say ‘things are back at square one’?

There is no specific format for this situation and so this is when things can get very interesting…and challenging! Harvey will look at some of our options and will show video extracts from sessions with a family as illustration.
